May 18-19 -- Fisher Sawmill Days
The Village of Fisher will celebrate its heritage with the 37th Annual Sawmill Days on May 18-19 in its original town square, located off U.S. 171 between Many and Florien. The festivities are free to the public and begin Friday, May 18 with clues for the $100 treasure hunt, a cake walk and street dance. Saturday, May 19's events begin at 9 a.m. with more treasure hunt clues, vendors, entertainment and a "womanless" beauty pageant. Events will conclude Saturday night with Gospel music in the opera house at 7 p.m. The commissary will be open, selling antiques and collectibles. May 19 -- Josey Benefit
There will be a benefit trail ride on Saturday, May 19 for Jerry Wayne Josey who was in a recent four-wheeler accident. Cost is $15 per rider. May 19-20 -- SWLA All Veterans' Reunion
The 2nd Annual SWLA All Veterans' Reunion is set Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20 in downtown DeRidder. The community-wide event will reunite area veterans, past and present, as well as military families and honor them, but everyone is welcome. There will be a meet and greet, parade, entertainment, food and vendors. On the event schedule is a special performance by the Victory Belles who performed at last year's inaugural event. The 82nd Airborne's "Green Light Go" band will also perform. There will also be children's activities, a caricature artist, static displays, fireworks and more. May 20 -- Vernon Orchestra Concert
The Vernon Parish Community Orchestra will host its spring concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 20 at the Leesville High School Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public. Donations will be taken at the door for the Wounded Warriors Project. Suggested donation is $5.

May 23 -- Beauregard Parish Library storytime
The DeRidder branch of the Beauregard Parish Library will host preschool storytime on Wednesday, May 23 at 11 a.m. All in attendance will be treated to stories, songs, snacks and crafts. May 25 -- Memorial Day observance
The public is invited to a Memorial Day observance slated Friday, May 25 at the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Leesville. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. and will feature Fort Polk Garrison Commander Col. Roger Shuck as guest speaker. May 24-26 -- Prescribed burning workshop
The Southwest Louisiana Forestry Association, the LSU AgCenter and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry will host a prescribed burning workshop May 24-26 at the War Memorial Civic Center in DeRidder. Times on May 24 and May 25 will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Workshop hours on May 26 are from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The workshop will enable landowners to learn how to burn their lands safely and legally. May 25-Aug. 10 -- BeauCARE Summer Camp
BeauCARE Summer Camp, for ages 6-17 years old, will be May 25 through Aug. 10, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day. Space is limited. Daily activities include games, computer lab, sports, arts and crafts and field trips. Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided daily through a USDA program. There will be weekly themes. May 26 -- Wampus Cat Gridiron Golf Tourney
The Wampus Cat Gridiron Club will hold its 6th annual golf tournament on Saturday, May 26 at the Warrior Hills Golf Course at Fort Polk. This will be a four-person scramble. Cost is $45 per person and includes green fees, cart, lunch and beverages. There will be over $1,200 in cash and door prizes up for grabs. Everyone is welcome. May 26 -- Rebel State Memorial Day Observance
Rebel State Historic Site in Marthaville will host a Confederate Memorial Day Service for the unknown soldier who served in the Confederate Army during the War Between the States at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26. The Sons of Confederate Veterans' Camp 2031, Brigade 8 from Newton, Texas will attend. At 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., there will be a presentation of period ladies' dress. There will be a rededication of the unknown soldiers' grave marker at 1 p.m. A "low tea" will be served at 2 p.m. and a string band will perform from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

May 31-June 2 -- Everstart Toledo Bend Fishing Tourney
The FLW Everstart Series Fishing Tournament will begin May 31 to June 2 at Cypress Bend Park in Many. The EverStart Series offers regional pros the chance to garner the experience necessary to advance to the FLW Tour.It consists of five divisions. The top 40 pros and co-anglers from each division also qualify for the EverStart Series Invitational. FLW is a premier tournament fishing organization that hosts a variety of tournaments including college fishing events and brings entertainment to communities throughout the country. June 2 -- "Return to Tiger Land"
Fort Polk's 162nd Infantry Brigade will host "Return to Tiger Land" on June 2 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Tiger Land area of North Fort Polk. The event will include military equipment displays, historic exhibits and more. There will be guided tours or you can just walk around on your own to view the exhibits. The Vernon Parish Fair Board is sponsoring the "Parish Indoor Swap Market," a huge garage sale with many different families participating, all under one air-conditioned roof at the Vernon Parish Fairgrounds, on Saturday, June 9. Those wanting to participate can do so by purchasing a 10x10 booth for $10. The sale will begin at 7 a.m. on June 9. June 7-10 -- Bassmaster Elite Fishing Tourney
The Bassmaster Elite Series season is in full swing and on its way to Toledo Bend, June 7- 10. Individuals can come meet their favorite fishing stars and watch as they hunt for the legendary lunkers "The Bend" has been known for throughout the years. Last year's winner on Toledo Bend, Dean Rojas, pulled in a fantastic haul of more than 70 pounds during the four day tournament. June 18 -- Dave Simmons/Johnny Jones basketball camp
The Community Development Networking Committee (CDNC) will host the 8th Annual Dave Simmons/Johnny Jones basketball camp for kids in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade on June 18-19 at the DeRidder High School gym from 8 a.m. to noon on both days. Cost is $30 per camper and includes a T-shirt, basketball and gym bag. Registration will take place May 19 and 26, and June 2 and 9., from 9 a.m. to noon at Taco Bell in DeRidder and on the Fort Polk Entrance Road. July 14 -- Gallery One Ellleven competition
Gallery One Ellleven is calling artists to their 3rd Annual Competition Exhibition. This is a juried event and it is for all artists ages 18 and older. There is a $30 entry fee and it covers up to three entries. The deadline for entries is July 14. An opening reception for the contest show will be held Sept. 8.

Nov. 5 -- Southern Foodways Bicentennial Exhibit
"200 Years of Taste," an exhibit designed by the Southern Food and Beverage Museum in New Orleans will be displayed at the DeRidder library branch, Nov. 5 through Nov. 25. This year marks the Bicentennial of Louisiana becoming a state. A large part of Louisiana's identity is the unique and delicious food found throughout the state, so it is only fitting to have an exhibit that celebrates the food and culinary culture. The Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office has a new program called "Project Loved One." It is designed so that families may worry less about loved ones who are suffering from any type of mental impairment that may prohibit them from being able to find their homes if they are separated from their loves ones.
